What's New In the 2019 Kia Niro Plug-In HybridThe 2019 Kia Niro Plug-In Hybrid brings a new game to the world of electric vehicles. The four-door crossover adds the fuel-saving electric motor without skimping on any of the features you’d want in a sports utility-inspired vehicle.

Our team at Kia of Vacaville is a huge fan of the new Kia Niro. Here are some of our favorite features.

Electric Power

The 2019 Niro Hybrid can get up to 26 miles on pure electric power using its lithium-ion polymer battery.

You can charge your Niro’s electric battery using Kia’s 120-volt Level 1 charger or the 240-volt Level 2 charger. The Level 1 charger can connect into your home’s wall outlets for an overnight charge. The Level 2 charger is what you find at public charging stations and can be installed in your home. Using the Level 2 charger, your Niro can get a full charge in less than three hours.

Use the UVO eco app to schedule your home charging times during off-peak electricity hours. This is a great feature that saves you money on your electricity bills.

UVO eco

The UVO eco app gives you unprecedented control over your vehicle. Using your phone, you can connect to the Niro over Bluetooth to call, text, and access entertainment features completely hands-free.

You can unlock and lock your doors, control the Niro’s climate, find nearby charging stations, and more. Look up directions, check on the Niro’s health, locate your vehicle, and remote-start your engine, all through your phone.

You can also connect the app to your home’s Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant to make voice commands and control your vehicle. Tell them to start your Niro while you’re making your morning coffee, or begin charging your vehicle without getting up from the couch.

These are just a handful of all the great convenience features the UVO eco app has to offer, so make sure you explore its capabilities.

Crossover Capabilities

The Kia Niro doesn’t suffer the same issue as other hybrid vehicles may have when it comes to space. This roomy crossover seats five people and holds a decent amount of cargo. The rear seats fold down when you’re carrying more cargo than passengers.

Each Niro is powered by a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine with a full parallel hybrid system that gives it a combined 139 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque.

The Niro has a total driving range of 560 miles and gets a combined EPA-rated 48 miles per gallon in the city and 44 on the highway.

There are three trim levels to choose from: the LX, EX, and EX Premium. Each comes with a rear-camera display that helps the driver see behind them as they’re reversing. The EX and EX Premium come standard with blind spot detection, lane change assist, and rear cross traffic alert to help the driver be more aware of vehicles around the Niro.
