5 Quick Day Trips From VacavilleWhile Vacaville, California, has plenty of interesting attractions to explore, the area also offers a variety of great destinations for a quick day trip. If you have a free day and you’re looking for something interesting to do near Vacaville, check out a few of these excellent options.

Muir Woods National Monument

If you travel about an hour and 20 minutes southwest of Vacaville to Muir Woods National Monument, you’ll be able to walk among giants as you traverse trails that wind around towering old-growth redwood trees. This protected forest has 6 miles of hiking trails that range in length and difficulty. The main trail starts at the visitor’s center and offers a half-mile hike through the forest and along Redwood Creek. For something more strenuous, the Ben Johnson Trail is a three-hour hike through the redwoods and to the top of Mount Tamalpais.

Golden Gate National Recreation Area

Located about an hour southwest of Vacaville, San Francisco has an endless number of destinations worth exploring. However, for an unbeatable view of one of the city’s most iconic structures and a nice variety of activities, plan a trip to Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Situated just north of the Golden Gate Bridge, the recreation area protects 82,027 acres of historically and ecologically significant land. You can enjoy amazing views of the bridge from several overlooks, learn some history at Fort Mason, or take a tour of the Point Bonita Lighthouse.

Hanna Winery

Travel about an hour and a half northwest of Vacaville to find Hanna Winery and its Alexander Valley tasting room. If you’re interested in a casual day of trying some delicious wines, consider the classic tasting of five wines. For something more special, sign up for the Picnic Under the Big Oak Tree tasting. During this experience, you get to unwind with a thoughtfully prepared picnic under the majestic oak tree at the Alexander Valley Estate.

Old Sacramento State Historic Park

As the capital of California, Sacramento offers plenty of interesting history worth exploring, and on the top of that list is the Old Sacramento State Historic Park located about a half hour from Vacaville. Here you’ll find a grouping of noteworthy buildings from the early Gold Rush, including a theater, the California Supreme Court, and the western end of the Pony Express postal system. As you walk through the historic area, you’ll also find plenty of places to eat and shop.

Napa Valley Wine Train

While you know you’ll find some great wineries and see beautiful landscapes when you travel 30 minutes west of Vacaville to Napa, perhaps the best way to explore the scenic area is on the Napa Valley Wine Train. You can choose from a variety of interesting tours, including a lunch train, dinner train, half-day winery tour, or full-day winery tour. The train also offers special events throughout the year, such as a murder mystery train and craft beer train.
