Rio or Rio 5-Door: Which Is Right for Me and My Family?Trying to choose between the Kia Rio and the Rio 5-door model? Consider these different features to figure out which is best for you and your lifestyle.

Under the Hood

The Kia Rio and the Rio 5-door both have the same engine under the hood. It’s a sporty revamped 1.6-liter engine that offers 130 horsepower and 119 pound-feet of torque. The engine is paired with a newly redesigned 6-speed automatic transmission with available Sportmatic mode for added power. Both vehicles are excellent on fuel, getting up to 32 miles per gallon highway and 29 miles per gallon city.

Body Style

One of the biggest differences between the Kia Rio and the Rio 5-door is the body style. The Kia Rio is a compact car with four doors and a trunk, while the Rio 5-door is a European-inspired hatchback vehicle with a larger trunk area.

If you’re looking for a vehicle with a sporty style, you’ll love the Rio 5-door. This model has a large back window that offers more visibility. At the rear of the Rio 5-door, there are also specially-designed taillights that add to the vehicle’s sporty look.

Both the Rio and the Rio 5-door have received a style change this model year. They are both wider and longer than previous years, making their interiors more spacious and comfortable for everyone. Both vehicles also have multi-reflector halogen headlights and Kia’s signature tiger-nose grille.

Interior Comfort and Space

Both the Kia Rio and the Rio 5-door are spacious enough to fit five passengers. Both vehicles have received an interior redesign this year and offer a sleeker dashboard and UVO touchscreen display system. You can connect your smartphone wirelessly so that you can make and receive phone calls, send voice to text messages, and listen to your favorite podcasts, all without taking your hands off the steering wheel.

There is a difference in the interior space of the two vehicles. Thanks to the hatchback style of the Kia 5-door you can easily fold the second row of seats flat, to get up to 32 cubic feet of cargo space. The second row of seats in the standard model of the Kia Rio does not fold flat, so your maximum cargo space is 17 cubic feet. You can, however, opt for a Rio that has folding seats as an add-on.

Safety Features

All Kia vehicles come standard with a lot of safety features. Both the Kia Rio and Rio 5-door have a full suite of advanced airbags. Also, they both have anti-lock brakes, electronic stability control, vehicle stability management, hill-start assist, and rear child safety door locks.

Both cars also offer the Kia Drive Wise system, which gives you a suite of safety technologies to make driving safer and more convenient. Some of the features included are forward collision warning and autonomous emergency braking.
