Top 4 Can't Miss Summer EventsGet ready to enjoy all the activities that make summer in Sacramento so amazing. To help plan your vacation, we put our heads together and came up with four can’t-miss events to keep the lazy days of summer in California fresh and exciting.

Placer County Fair – June 21 to June 24

Renew your love of the classic county fair in Placer this summer. This year’s festivities come with a $10 million renovation of the fairgrounds. Discover everything you remember about the fair, from farm animals to carnival rides. Enjoy the season with live bands and plenty of food for one heck-of-a good time.

Since 1937, the fair has brought amazing artists, local wine and beer makers, community performances, exhibits, and entertainment for the kids. Carnival wristbands are $30 on-site for a day filled with unlimited rides.

Fourth on the Field – July 4

Commemorate Independence Day at the annual Fourth on the Field gala event. Sample a variety of delicious fare from local food trucks, dance to live music, play games, win contests, and watch spectacular fireworks show. Kids of all ages love the Down on the Farm playground area, while parents and adults over 21 enjoy alcoholic beverages, foosball, ping pong, and darts at the Western Health Advantage Legacy Club.

America’s birthday party at Raley Field starts at 6 p.m., and the pyrotechnics begin at 9:30 p.m. Fourth on the Field’s general admission tickets are $10, children 12 and under are just $5, while Legacy Club tickets are $15.

Bastille Day Waiters’ Race Festival – July 14

Inspired by the famous footrace in Paris, join runners for Sacramento’s Bastille Day Waiters’ Race in midtown. The goal of this hilarious spectacle is to make it to the finish line without spilling a glass of water from your tray. Judges on each corner and the finish line determine the winner.

The date marks the beginning of the French Revolution in 1789. Today, La Fete Nationale is hailed with parades, fireworks, and festivities throughout France — just like our Fourth of July celebration in the U.S. The festival runs from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., with the Waiters’ Race starting promptly at 4:30.

Jazz-A-Peel Banana Festival – August 11 and 12

Looking for an exciting, family-friendly multicultural event? Join your Sacramento neighbors at William Land Park for the 9th Annual Banana Festival. Celebrate the diverse cultures that use and love the banana at this two-day event. Fun for all ages, sample banana cuisine, order lunch from a food truck, enjoy live entertainment, explore multicultural exhibits, and browse the marketplace.

This charitable event benefits over 15,000 youth and adults every year through the National Academic Youth Corps. The fund supports art and educational programs for at-risk residents right here in Sacramento, as well as other organizations. General admission tickets are $10 for adults, while discounts extend to children, seniors, and military personnel.

Whether you’re looking to celebrate a national holiday or renew your love of the carnival, we know you’ll find something new on our list of top four can’t miss summer events.
