Lagoon Valley Park/Pena Adobe Regional Park

With ample trail material for walkers, hikers, cyclists, and horseback riders, Lagoon Valley Park is the ideal backdrop for a day outing. Also known as Pena Adobe Regional Park, this area is located off Interstate-80 and stretches over 470 acres, with stunning countryside views in the distance. There are both paved and gravel trails to follow, each providing a different level of difficulty for cyclists, including several steep downhill slopes for advanced riders. For beginners or intermediate-level riders, we suggest taking the Lagoon Valley Loop for a 9-mile, casual course.

No matter the path you take, you’ll still be flanked by lush farmland, rolling hills, winding trails, and the Lagoon Valley Reservoir that intersects the shoreline for 2.5 miles. Lagoon Valley Park also boasts dirt paths that wind through wooded areas, a redwood tree grove with picnic areas, sightings of grazing cows and aquatic birds, and a dog park for your furry friend.

Alamo Creek Bike Trail

A popular path for walkers and cyclists alike, the Alamo Creek Bike Trail reaches approximately 10 miles round trip and spans east to west along the glistening Alamo Creek. Starting points are available at one of the many intersecting parks, including Eleanor Nelson Park, that are situated just outside the hustle and bustle of downtown Vacaville.

Alamo Creek Bike Trail isn’t a strenuous path, making it ideal for beginners and youngsters who want to tag along. With glistening creek water and flourishing oak and walnut trees surrounding you, taking in the natural wonders of the city is a quick bike ride away. You might even catch a glimpse of local wildlife during your trek, such as squirrels, turtles, and beavers.

Rockville Hills Regional Park

Just outside of Vacaville in Fairfield, California, though still located in Solano County, sits the Rockville Hills Regional Park. Within the park’s 633 acres of lovely grassland, you’ll find captivating views of the Rockville Lake, Mount Diablo, wandering wildlife, blooming spring wildflowers, and surrounding marshes and hills. You’ll also notice over 30 miles of meandering trails and loops perfect for walkers, hikers, and bikers.

You’ll find paths for beginners and intermediate riders, plus single-track and rugged slopes for skilled cyclists. In particular, the Rockville Park Loop is a 7-mile course packed with plenty of mid-level adventure. The Bay Area Ridge Trail isn’t nearly as challenging and meets up with other trails along its short 2-mile track, making it an easy path for kids and amateurs.
